Tips about archival storage
(A) Know More About Archival Storage
Tips  1 : Books and Pamphlet protection
Uses pamphlet binders for materials that will be used and stored individually on the shelves, items that are rare, valuable or brittle should never be glued in. Place these in an enclosure such as binder, box or folder and store horizontally.
Books should be store upright and not slant. Uses only proper book repair techniques and quality supplies for professional long lasting results. When packing for remote storage, keep books upright on the bottom edge or spine down. (Never place spine up). Oversize book should keep flat and containers filled and well supported.

Step 2: Secondary Enclosures : uses envelops or file to group loose items. Step 3: Storage box, offer maximum protection.

Tips : Photograph and negative storage
Base on anticipated use, Step 1 : Primary Enclosures : if collection is viewed and handled often, clear storage is the best. Choose Polyester sleeves envelopes. For less utilize collection, paper sleeves envelopes offer opaque protection from UV light, and easy organized and cataloged. Because photo must be remove to be seen, costly damage can occur. Step 2: Secondary Enclosures : Use albums for frequently used collection. Use 3 ring photo pages for easy insertion. Step 3: Storage Container : use acid free box or flat storage box to organize and store collection. Metal edge box are often choose for its sturdy and durable function. Flat storage for loose items or oversize print.
Always remember to wear white gloves to prevent scratches, fingerprint, and damage from oil and perspiration

Choose from see through archival polyester envelops or sheet protector to prevent fragile, torn, brittle and prevent further damage from frequent handling. Step 2: Secondary Enclosures: Paper envelopes are uses to protect pamphlets, books, newspaper clipping and sheet music. Folder protect individual items or organize groups of items. Choose sturdy folder for oversize items. Step 3: Storage Containers. Options are available for upright, stacking, bulk items, flat storage and more. Document cases store upright on shelving , Flat storage boxes ideal for store on flat shelves. Uses flat file cabinet for oversize items such as poster, map.. artwork. Never tightly pack file folders and use spacers in the box. Isolate poor quality paper (eg: newsprint ) from good quality paper to avoid acid migration. Use buffered storage boxes and wear clean cotton gloves to protect documents from dirt and fingerprints.
